Manatee County Traffic Court Records Search

Manatee County traffic court records cover every citation written by a law enforcement agency in the county and filed with the Clerk. A Manatee County traffic court records search looks up a citation by number, by name, or by case type. The court traffic record is not the same as the FLHSMV driver record. The Clerk handles the court side: fines, hearings, and traffic school. FLHSMV handles the driver side: points, license status, and suspension. The Clerk's Traffic department processes citations from the Sheriff, Bradenton Police, Palmetto Police, Florida Highway Patrol, and other agencies that cite in Manatee County.

Which Manatee Courts Handle Traffic Cases

Most traffic infractions are County Court matters. Serious criminal traffic charges, like DUI with serious bodily injury or vehicular homicide, are Circuit Court felony cases. The Clerk's traffic department processes the citation regardless of which tier hears the case. Magistrates and hearing officers can preside over contested traffic infractions.

  • Manatee County Sheriff's Office citations.
  • Bradenton Police Department citations.
  • Palmetto Police Department citations.
  • Holmes Beach Police citations.
  • Bradenton Beach Police citations.
  • Florida Highway Patrol citations.
  • Other agencies that cite within the county.

The Clerk's portal also offers a Case Type search with a date range when you do not know the citation number or case number.

Paying or Contesting a Manatee County Traffic Ticket

The Clerk and FLHSMV both publish the 30-day rule. The driver has 30 calendar days from the date the ticket was issued to pay, request a hearing, or elect Basic Driver Improvement school. Missing the deadline can trigger additional fees and license suspension. Pay is treated as a conviction, and points may be assessed under Fla. Stat. § 322.27.

  1. Read the citation and find the Clerk of Court, citation number, issue date, and deadline.
  2. Act within 30 calendar days from the citation date.
  3. Search the Manatee Clerk Court Records by Citation Number to confirm the fine and status.
  4. Option A: pay the fine. Pay is a conviction; points may apply.
  5. Option B: plead not guilty and request a hearing in writing. The Clerk gives a court date.
  6. Option C: elect Basic Driver Improvement school if eligible. Notify the Clerk, pay the school election fee within 30 days, and complete the approved course. Manatee's summary says complete the course within 90 days.
  7. For proof-of-compliance items, bring or send proof such as a valid driver license or registration.
  8. If past due, expect added fees and possible license suspension.
  9. CDL holders are not eligible for ordinary BDI election under FLHSMV rules.
  10. Treat DUI, reckless driving, leaving the scene, and similar charges as criminal traffic; see the criminal records page.

Public Access Laws for Traffic Records

Traffic court records are public under Florida's open-records framework. Fla. Stat. § 119.0714 covers court files and official records. The Clerk redacts certain identifiers in traffic dockets, including full Social Security numbers and financial account numbers. Driver license numbers are usually not published in the public court view.

Some criminal traffic files have additional restrictions. Juvenile traffic records may be limited under Fla. Stat. § 985.04. Sealed or expunged criminal traffic cases drop off public search under § 943.0585 and § 943.059.

Court Traffic Record vs FLHSMV Driver Record

Two agencies hold related but separate files. The Manatee Clerk holds the court traffic record. FLHSMV holds the driver record. Pay or election at the Clerk drives the disposition. Points and suspension show up on the FLHSMV side. Confusing the two leads to the most common Manatee traffic mistakes.

CDL and Commercial Driver Records

FLHSMV's driver-improvement FAQ says CDL holders are excluded from the ordinary BDI election, regardless of the type of vehicle the CDL holder was driving at the time of the violation. CDL convictions report to the federal database and can affect employment. A CDL holder who gets a citation in Manatee County should consult counsel before deciding whether to pay, contest, or seek another outcome.

The Clerk still processes the citation and the fine. The driver record at FLHSMV records the conviction and any commercial-driver consequences. CDL drivers often face a hearing as the only safe path to protect the license.

DUI / DWI in Manatee County

DUI is a criminal traffic charge in Florida. Manatee County DUI files appear under Criminal Traffic in the Clerk's portal. First-offense and second-offense DUI are usually County Court matters with a possible felony upgrade for repeat offenses or serious bodily injury. See the criminal records page for arrest history and the warrant records page for failure-to-appear and capias entries.

Note: DUI and reckless driving cases cannot be resolved by ordinary BDI election; FLHSMV excludes criminal violations from the school option, so treat DUI as criminal not infraction.

Basic Driver Improvement and Deferred Adjudication

Basic Driver Improvement (BDI) lets eligible drivers avoid points and a conviction on the driver record. FLHSMV says the BDI election may reduce the citation fee by 18%, with court costs imposed by the Clerk. Election must happen within 30 days. Manatee's summary says the course must be completed within 90 days of election. Fla. Stat. § 318.14 sets the withhold-of-adjudication rule and the no-points outcome.

FLHSMV's FAQ also says insurance companies cannot impose an additional premium or refuse renewal solely because of the noncriminal traffic infraction when the driver completes BDI under the statute. Approved BDI providers are listed by FLHSMV.

FLHSMV's Basic Driver Improvement page lists approved providers and the election rules.

The FAQ also notes that CDL holders are not eligible for the BDI election regardless of vehicle driven.

Sealing or Expunging Manatee Traffic Records

Florida criminal traffic records can be eligible for sealing under Fla. Stat. § 943.059 or expunction under § 943.0585. The process starts with FDLE and a Certificate of Eligibility, followed by a petition in the court that handled the case. Noncriminal traffic infractions are not part of that same scheme; they sit on the driver record at FLHSMV under separate rules.

The Sheriff's Arrest Inquiry page directs users seeking statewide criminal history information or sealing to FDLE Public Records at (850) 410-8109. Sealed or expunged criminal traffic cases drop out of the Clerk's public view once the order is entered.

Old Red-Light Camera Tickets Still Matter

The Clerk's traffic page says Manatee County's red-light camera program ended in October 2022. Outstanding red-light camera citations from before that date must still be resolved. Failure to handle an old red-light camera ticket can result in continued collection action and license issues. The Clerk can confirm the current balance and how to pay or challenge it.

Out-of-State Drivers

Out-of-state drivers cited in Manatee County still resolve the file with the Manatee Clerk or the assigned hearing officer. The effect on the home-state license depends on interstate reporting under the Driver License Compact and the home state's rules. Florida traffic school may not protect an out-of-state license; check with FLHSMV, the home-state agency, and counsel before relying on it.
