How to Search Manatee County Court Records
The Manatee County Court Records search lives on the Clerk's Public Records Hub at records.manateeclerk.com/CourtRecords/Search. The page opens with tabs for Person, Business, Case Number, Citation, Case Type, and Today's Hearings. The Clerk's Public Access and Research page confirms that the same portal covers small claims, traffic infractions, civil, criminal, family, probate, and most other Manatee County case files.
Search results are returned as a table of cases. Each row links to a docket view. The Clerk warns that the data is for informational use and not an authoritative legal record. Always order a certified copy from the Clerk if you need the file for court, a job, immigration, or a background check.
The Clerk's Court Records landing page shows the tabs and the public-access disclaimer.

From the landing page, a user picks the search mode that matches what they know about the case.
- Open the Court Records search on the Clerk's Public Records Hub.
- Pick a search mode based on what you know: name, case number, citation number, case type, or hearing date.
- Type the party last name in the Last field. Add a first name if the last name is common.
- Pick a Case Type from the dropdown if you want to limit the result list, or leave it on "All Case Types."
- Set Page Size to 25, 50, 100, or 250 results per page.
- Press Submit and review the result table for Case Number, Party Name, Status, and File Date.
- Click the View icon on any row to open the docket, request a locked image, or read the confidential notice.
- Buy a certified copy from the Clerk if you need a record with the seal.
Manatee County Court Records Search Fields
The Court Records portal uses a small set of fields across each search tab. The Person tab focuses on names. The Case Number tab is a single text box with the case number. The Case Type tab adds a date range. The screen-reader labels on the Person tab read "Last" and "First," which is why some users say the form has no obvious labels at first glance.
The Person search page is the most-used path.

The form looks short because the labels are screen-reader only; the placeholders "Last" and "First" mark the two main text boxes.
| Field Label | Type | Required | Notes / Format |
|---|---|---|---|
| Last Name | Text | Yes for person search | Autofocus field; placeholder "Last." |
| First Name | Text | No | Placeholder "First"; helps with common surnames. |
| Case Type | Dropdown | No | 30+ options including Felony, Misdemeanor, Circuit Civil, Domestic Relations, Probate, Traffic Infractions. |
| Page Size | Dropdown | Yes | 25, 50, 100, or 250 results per page. |
| Case Number | Text | Yes for case-number search | Blank submits trigger "A Case Number must be provided." |
| Citation Number | Text | Yes for citation tab | Used for traffic infractions and red-light camera follow-ups. |
| Start Date | Date | For case-type search | Earliest file date in the date-range query. |
| End Date | Date | For case-type search | Latest file date in the date-range query. |
Types of Manatee County Court Records
Manatee County trial courts hear most types of state-law cases. The Clerk's portal groups them by case type. Some case types fall under the Circuit Court with general jurisdiction. Other case types are County Court matters with limited jurisdiction. Below are the main groups visible in the Manatee County court records search.
Each group has its own filing process, fee, and standard set of documents. Civil files often run hundreds of pages. Misdemeanor and traffic files are smaller. Probate files can stretch for months or years and include accountings and reports.
- Felony cases - filed in Circuit Court; case-type code CF. Burglary, grand theft, drug offenses, and homicide are in this group.
- Misdemeanor cases - filed in County Court; code MM. Petit theft, simple battery, and most DUI-related misdemeanors are filed here.
- Circuit civil - claims over $50,000 including foreclosure, contract, and personal injury. Code CI.
- County civil - claims between $8,000 and $50,000 plus most eviction cases.
- Small claims - low-dollar disputes; faster procedure and self-help friendly.
- Domestic relations - divorce, custody, support, paternity, and injunctions; some images restricted online.
- Probate and guardianship - estates, wills, guardianship, competency, and involuntary hospitalization.
- Traffic infractions and criminal traffic - citation files for every law enforcement agency that writes tickets in Manatee County.
What a Manatee County Court Record Shows
The search result table returns eight columns for every case. Each row carries enough data to confirm whether the case is the one you want, plus a View button that opens the full docket. The DOB column is intentionally short. The Clerk displays year only on public results under Fla. Stat. § 119.0714 and Rule 2.425.
| Field | What It Shows |
|---|---|
| Case Number | Year, division code (CF, MM, CI, DR, etc.), sequence, and suffix. Example: 2022CF003020AX. |
| Party Name | Indexed last name first, then first and middle. |
| Party Type | Defendant, Plaintiff, Petitioner, Respondent, or third-party label. |
| Case Type | Felony, Circuit Civil, County Civil, Probate, Traffic Infractions, and similar. |
| Case Status | Open, Closed, DFR - Closed, Collections-Open, or Reopen. |
| File Date | Date the Clerk first stamped the file. |
| DOB | Year only on public view; full DOB is restricted. |
| View | Button that opens the docket page, the lock-icon request, or the confidential notice. |
Inside a docket, you see every filing in date order. Charging documents, motions, orders, judgments, hearing notices, and final dispositions are all listed. A lock icon next to a document means the Clerk will email a copy after a manual review, usually within 24 hours. A confidential icon means the file is sealed and is not available to the public.
Public Access Framework for Manatee County Court Records
Florida starts from the rule that public records are open unless an exemption applies. Fla. Stat. § 119.01 sets that policy. Fla. Stat. § 119.07 tells a custodian to allow inspection and copying at reasonable times and to redact only what an exemption covers. Court records have a second layer of rules under Florida Rule of General Practice and Judicial Administration 2.420.
The Clerk's Public Records Hub follows that framework. Anyone can search court records without an account. Most non-confidential images open in the browser. Some images are locked under Fla. Stat. § 28.2221 and need an email request. Attorneys, parties, government agencies, and law enforcement can apply for a subscriber account that opens more documents.
Note: Florida law lets a custodian charge a reasonable copy fee and a search fee when a case number is not given, so plan to pay for older searches.
Sealed or Confidential Records in Manatee County
Some Manatee County court records are not open to the public. Juvenile delinquency and dependency files are sealed under Fla. Stat. § 985.04. Adoption files are sealed under § 63.162. Mental-health clinical records, including Baker Act files, are protected under § 394.4615. Sealed and expunged criminal records under § 943.0585 and § 943.059 drop out of the public view once the order is entered.
To view a sealed file, you must be a party or another qualified requester named in statute. The Clerk's Public Access page says juvenile case information cannot be given online or by phone. The requester goes to the Family/Juvenile department at the courthouse with photo ID and asks for the file in person.
Certified Copies and Court Record Fees
The Manatee County Clerk publishes a fee schedule that covers every court-record product. Plain copies and certifications follow a simple per-page price set by Florida statute. Larger items, transcripts, and search fees follow their own rates.
